چکیده

We study the radiation properties of electrically small resonant antennas (ka < 1) composed of electric-field-coupled (ELC) and complementary electric-field-coupled (CELC) resonators and a monopole antenna. We use such parasitic ELC and CELC “metaresonators” to design various electrically small antennas. In particular, monopole-excited and bent-monopole-excited CELC resonator antennas are proposed that provide very low profiles on the order of k0=20. We compare the performance of the proposed ELC and CELC antennas against more conventional designs based upon split-ring resonators. VC 2013 American Institute of Physics. Performance of an Implanted Electrically Coupled Loop Antenna inside Human Body

Implanted antennas are widely used in hyperthermia and biomedical applications. The antenna needs to be extremely small while maintaining a permissible Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and being able to cope with the detuning effects due to the dielectric properties of human body tissues. Most of the proposed antennas for implanted applications are electric field antennas such as Planner Inverted...

Efficient Isolation between Electrically Small Metamaterial-Inspired Monopole Antennas

In this paper, a new electrically small metamaterial-inspired monopole antenna is presented. It consists of a simple square-shaped coplanar waveguide (CPW-fed) monopole with an embedded complementary split ring resonator (CSRR). It operates at three distinct frequency ranges around 2.45, 4.2, and 5.8GHz, with low return loss and uniform radiation patterns, making it a perfect candidate for mode...

Electrically Small Resonators for Planar Metamaterial, Microwave Circuit and Antenna Design: A Comparative Analysis

Planar metamaterials and many microwave circuits and antennas are designed by means of resonators with dimensions much smaller than the wavelength at their resonance frequency. There are many types of such electrically small resonators, and the main purpose of this paper is to compare them as building blocks for the implementation of microwave components. Aspects such as resonator size, bandwid...

Photonic magnetic metamaterial basics

In the present study, we provide a detailed analysis for the study of photonic metamaterials. We demonstrate the polarization and orientation dependent transmission response of split ring resonators at the infrared and visible band. We provided optical measurements only for one case, in which electric component of the incident field was coupled to planar split ring resonator array. We consecuti...

Complementary Split Ring Resonator Effects on Radiation Pattern Reconfigurable Circular Microstrip Antennas

In this study, a radiation pattern reconfigurable microstrip antenna is designed and fabricated. The antenna’s radiation pattern is directed in 9 different angles by employing a radiating patch and embedding complementary split ring resonators (CSRR) on the ground plane. The radiating patch is of circular shape, while for CSRR elements both circular and rectangular shapes are investigated. The ...
